The basic ambulance assistant (BAA) programme is aimed at persons who wish to pursuit a career in the emergency medical services (EMS) and serves as the entry-level qualification to the EMS profession.
Students will be taught about medical and trauma emergencies in accordance with the published curriculum by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) Professional Board of Emergency Medical Care.
On successful completion of the BAA final examinations, candidates are eligible to register with the HPCSA as a Basic Life Support Emergency Care Practitioner.
Course duration: 6 weeks (full-time)
17 weeks (part-time) * presented on an adhoc basis
Prerequisite: Current certificate in First Aid Level 1
